"Sir, now might be a good time-"

"Call her." said a sweating Tony Stark. He was flying with a nuclear powered missile launched by the US Military towards the portal to the Chitauri the Tesseract had opened. Jarvis, his AI, had dialled the number. She didn't answer. He flew in, systems failing. Tony left the missile so it could destroy the Chitauri. He fell, eyes widened. She didn't answer. He fell, thinking he was going to die. He closed his eyes.

She was watching the news, eyes full of tears. She saw Tony fly into the portal while it was closing. She didn't see him fly out as her vision was blurry. Virginia Potts felt like a shattered piece of glass. He... died... No, he can't! He wouldn't be dead! She buried her head in her hands.

Tony was on the ground, unconcious. Steve Rogers yanked off the guy's faceplate and threw it aside. Tony was still out cold. Hulk, being an impatient oaf, roared out loud. Tony woke up with a start.

"Gaaah! What just happened? Please tell me nobody kissed me." he said.

"We won." Steve replied.

"All right, hey! All right, good job guys. Let's just not come in tomorrow; let's just take a day. Hey! I know this shawarma joint somewhere around here, can we go?" Steve rolled his eyes. She didn't answer, Goddammit! Why? Tony yelled in his mind.

For the first time in her life, she broke down. And that too, in Tony's private jet. Who cried in their bossman's jet? She asked herself. She loved the idiot who sacrificed his life for the world. Little did she know that he survived.

"Pepper..." Tony muttered while eating his shawarma. He was worried about her. Natasha Romanoff looked up from her food.

"Stark, did you say something?" she asked.

"There's no pepper in this stuff!" He threw the shawarma down on his plate and left the restaurant in a jiffy. Somehow, he knew Pepper was near.

"What's his problem?" Clint Barton asked.

"He wants Pepper, Hawkeye." Bruce Banner calmly replied.

"Miss Potts? Or the thing we put in food?" Steve asked.

"His girlfriend. He's worried sick." Bruce said.

"What is this creature you speak of?" Thor questioned.

"A woman who cares about the idiot." Natasha mumbled.

Pepper was at Stark Tower for the past fifteen minutes. She was on her knees, crying her heart out. She didn't hear Tony stepping out of the elevator.

"P-Pepper... You're supposed to be in D.C. Why are you here?" he asked softly, walking towards her. He knelt down near her and hugged her. Pepper was startled by the close contact. She turned her head to see Tony and wrapped her arms around him.

"T-Tony! I thought you were dead! I saw you not coming back out!" she cried. Tony smirked.

"I did, and I'm thankful for it. By the way, why didn't you answer my call?" he asked, nuzzling his head into her neck. Pepper sniffed.

"I'm an idiot for not answering! I hated myself for it!" Pepper yelled. Her tears were drying up on her fair freckled face. Tony hugged her and rubbed her back.

"It's ok, it wasn't your fault." he whispered hoarsely. "I love you, Pep." He kissed her forehead.

"I love you too, Tony."
