tell me, what makes a book good enough for publishing ?

Tell me, you, what makes a book good enough for publishing ?

How do authors know if they should dare try ?

Do you think ebooks can get away with more since there is no printing costs ?

Why do poorly written books get published but good ones often get rejected ?

Why does an ebook about getting the babysitter pregnant pop up in my search results when I searched for 'plant breeding'?
Is that a kitten in my tea?

some self published books are very professional. Helen Hollick self publishes in the UK and has a writing contract in the USA. She's written a 'how to' book full of good advice.. Discovering the diamond.

All books should at least have a good beta and preferably a professional editor have a go at them.... they need the 'touch'

as to why the bad ones get accepted and the good ones don't ? luck? the right sacrifice? fashion?

I don't mean to sound peevish, but I do read a lot of books that I wonder 'how did this get published?' and more importantly, 'Why did I waste good money on this book?'. I've read things in fan fiction that are sometimes twice as good as books with covers and printed pages. It's one of life's little mysteries.
Life is hard enough with friends and impossible with enemies

A lot of times it's who you meet and know, I think. Sometimes it's being in the right place at the right time or writing the right thing at the right time. When a book or series gains epic popularity, publishers tend to look for more of the same to piggy back the initial blockbuster's success.
Not quite thirty. Likes to jump off high things. Kind of a swot. Mass reading. Light baking.
