So for you Planners...

How do you go about planning? I've always been something of a Pantser and I'm having such a hard time writing lately. How do you plan your story lines and what keeps you writing? I'm having such a hard time writing lately and each idea seems to flop.

Any tips are appreciated. <3

I guess I'm a Planner, more than anything else... well, procrastinator, if we're gonna be precise :D

I always like to bat around the prompt or bunny by myself, see what comes of it first. Once I've got the basic idea settled and the main plot line organised, I'll start writing down the ideas and some kind of loose plan as things come to me.

It generally ends up a short, one line at a time, list of events;
Hermione runs
Bill chases
Run across beach
Bill falls
... and so on, adding things in before if necessary to help the story. I will usually have a rough idea of what I want the scene to look like and occasionally expand on these lines if necessary. I'll write more as required to make sure the scene is relatively clear, so I don't forget what I wanted to have in there.

Then, when I'm ready and have done as much of the plot or chapter as I can, I go back and start fleshing out those little lines into sensible prose. I'll almost always have a chat with Shinigamioni, my go-to cheerleader and pom-pom, at some point during the process, cause she will almost always come up with something interesting for me to consider (I can recommend Shinigamioni, very very highly, cos she's awesome!).

Having a cheerleader is an invaluable part of my writing process because she's able to look at my plot from the outside and see any potential pit-falls or suggest ideas that may be good.

And that's my Planning process.

I then sit back, wait until about one to two weeks before the deadline, then panic, stop sleeping, and spend every night, writing till 0200 :D

Nathaniel- LOL *blush* *hugs* Thank you! I'm only a good cheerleader as the content provided by great and awesome authors, of which you are one. :D I can attest to him panicking and staying up til "silly-o' clock" in the morning. (His words, not mine XD)

StitchWitch- Indeed you have days when you feel like that but if you ever need a sounding board/cheerleader. I am more than happy to assist you in getting your fic up and running.

I hope you both have a great day and may your Muse never leave you.

Lots of love,
Shinigamioni

I'm something in between, I guess. I know what I want to say, and I keep some kind of plan in mind. Like Nathaniel, I make little notes for myself. But, I never write a detailed plan. I'm too fickle for a solid plan on paper.

About writing steam,

Once I have been told: "Don't wait for your Muse to appear. Write, and she'll come." It works for me. I write one sentence or a few paragraphs (whatever I can manage) and play with them until words begin to form in my head. And of course, it helps to have a good cheerleader. Quilter helped me even when my mind was absolutely blank. She is amazing!

Thanks guys- I tried to write for this and last month's prompt but just couldn't muster any idea or story that I felt good or even excited about.

Maybe you could try a different fandom.

Or just write crazy things.

Is that a kitten in my tea?
